FAYETTE, Mo. - Opening the season against no. 18 Central Methodist University, Ottawa University withstood a barrage of shots from the Eagles to hold on for a 2-0 loss.
Lena-Marie Winkler turned in seven saves after coming on as a second-half substitute for Ottawa, with
Makena Tapia collecting three saves in the first half.
Ottawa was able to generate a pair of solid offensive chances in the first half, with
Reece Young slipping free in the second minute before turning to fire on goal.
After conceding in the 21st, Ottawa earned a free kick in the middle of the field, but
Melissa Grohmann's shot was collected by Amber Bennett.
The Eagles were able to add a second goal in the 68th minute to close out the contest.
Ottawa is back on the road for its next contest, taking on Missouri Baptist University on Wednesday, August 26. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
