CONFIDENTIALITY

All student-athlete information and records associated with the Ottawa University substance abuse program will be confidential and will be released only to those individuals with a legitimate need to know. Maintaining confidentiality and the protection of the rights of the student-athlete is a critical factor in drug-testing. Every effort will be made to protect the confidentiality of student-athletes under this policy, including those who test positive, undergo reasonable suspicion testing, or enter treatment programs. Under no circumstances will any Ottawa University personnel or anyone else associated with the drug testing program be permitted to discuss publicly any information acquired in their capacity, whether it involves student-athletes or teams. Any information concerning a student-athlete’s alleged or confirmed use of a banned substance solicited or received pursuant to implementation of this Policy, shall be restricted to institutional personnel and to parents or guardians as provided herein, except as required by law. The occasion could arise when Ottawa University is required, or is asked, to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in legal action. Under appropriate circumstances, these requests will be honored. All infractions will be referred to as a “violation of team policy” in communication with any persons not directly affected by the infraction.
