High School: Hernandez lettered in baseball at Ponder High School. His select team won the Best in the US Showcase in Las Vegas. He earned Second Team All-District honors as a senior. Hernandez was an Honorable Mention All-District honors as a junior. He played in the Perfect Game All-Tournament Team PGBA Open at DBU and TCU. Hernandez had an OBP of .500 in both his junior and senior seasons.
