Hollis Mitchell

Coach Mitchell is in his second season as an assistant coach with the OU men’s basketball program.

Mitchell spent the summer of 2021 as a graduate assistant with the McNeese State University men’s basketball program. While at MSU, he helped with player development, film, assisted with workout schedules and day to day program operations, helped with gear inventory, assisted with academics, organized community involvement, oversaw the student managers, and assisted with practice planning.

Prior to his time at MSU, Mitchell helped players from the London Lions of the BBL in London, England with practices and skill development was head coach of the fourth team at the University of East London. Mitchell developed practice and game plans and worked with player skill development.

While in London, Mitchell acted as an assistant coach for the Newham All-Star Sports Agency. He worked camps for the youth associated with the organization. Mitchell also worked with player development along with practice and game planning.

Mitchell also worked for Next Up Basketball in Tulsa, Okla. and Drive 5 in Kansas City, Kan. At Next Up Basketball, he helped beginning basketball players learn leadership and court skills. As a head youth coach at Drive 5, Mitchell helped the players focus on development, assisted with private instruction along with shooting clinics and camps. He also did daily group development with grades ranging from second to 11th grade.

Mitchell earned his masters in positive psychology and coaching psychology at the University of East London. While at East London, he played in the BUCS Premier League. Mitchell averaged 16 points, 6.3 assists, two rebounds, and 2.4 steals per game during the 2019-20 season.

Mitchell graduated from Ottawa University in 2018 with his degree in psychology. He was a four year letterman and three year starter under head coach Aaron Siebenthall. Mitchell was a 1,000 point scorer, a two-time All-KCAC performer, was named to the KCAC All-Defensive Team, and is ranked fourth in the OU record book in career assists with 350.
