Coach Rickert is in his first season as an assistant coach with the OU bowling program.

Before coming to Ottawa University, Rickert was the owner/operator of Stryxx Pro Shop in Grawn, Mich. He holds certifications from Ebonite Powerhouse Training Clinic in 2015, Innovative/Brunswick Advance Pro Shop Clinic in 2016 and 2018 and is an IBSPIA HOTS/Master Technician. Brian is also an USBC Bronze Level Coach and a regional staff member with Radical Bowling Technologies. Rickert also was a board member of the USBC Traverse City Bowling Association.

Rickert was the head women’s bowling coach at Traverse City West High School from 2013-19. He became Director of the bowling program in the 2014-15 season. While at TCWHS, Rickert led the women to six straight Great Northwest High School Conference Championships and 53 straight conference match victories. He took over as head coach for the men’s program in 2018-19 and improved the men from three consecutive 5-4 records to a finish of 7-2 with a sophomore making it to the Michigan State Singles Finals.

He was twice named Great Northwest High School Conference Women’s Coach of the Year, had six state finalists (five women, one man), three bowlers went on to bowl collegiately, and coached nine junior gold qualifiers. Rickert finished his high school coaching career with a women’s record of 53-0 and a men’s record of 7-2.

Rickert began bowling at the age of eight, has be involved in the sport for 40 years, and has spent over 20 years as a volunteer youth coach. He has bowled seven 300 games and has a high series of 814. Rickert won the Allentown Men’s City Tournament in 2004, the Northern Michigan Doubles Championship in 2018, and won the Traverse City Men’s City Tournament in 2019.

Rickert graduated with a degree in physical education from Taylor University.
