Coach Genzen is in his first season as head coach of the OU men's lacrosse team.
Genzen joins the Ottawa coaching staff after serving as an assistant coach for both the men's and women's lacrosse programs at Ottawa University since August of 2024. In his previous role, he worked extensively with goalie development, served as the men's recruiting coordinator, assisted with administrative responsibilities, managed equipment and inventory, and helped develop practice plans.
Prior to joining Ottawa's coaching staff, Genzen served as an assistant coach and head goalie coach with Iowa Central Elite Lacrosse from 2023 to 2025. He developed goalkeepers throughout the program, served as acting head coach during select contests, coordinated player recruiting exposure, created practice plans for the program's high school teams, and assisted in the development of defensive players at every position. He was promoted from U12 head coach to the program's Gold Assistant Coach during his tenure.
Genzen also spent time as a volunteer assistant coach with the West Des Moines Lacrosse Club, where he focused on goalie and defensive development while serving in a defensive coordinator role during games. His coaching career began through youth lacrosse while working as a site supervisor and official for the YMCA of Greater Des Moines.
In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Genzen currently serves as a site supervisor for the Ottawa Recreation Commission, overseeing game operations across multiple sports and managing staff while handling game-day logistics.
A 2026 graduate of Ottawa University with a bachelor's degree in communication studies, Genzen was a member of the Braves men's lacrosse team from 2022 to 2024, helping Ottawa capture the 2024 KCAC Championship. He also competed for the Braves track and field team and was a Novice National Qualifier as a member of Ottawa's speech and debate team. Before transferring to Ottawa, Genzen played one season of collegiate lacrosse at Morningside University.
Genzen has also enjoyed success coaching at the high school level, helping mentor four all-state selections, including two first-team and two second-team honorees.
