Coach Sorensen is in his first year as an assistant coach with the OU women's volleyball program.

With extensive playing experience, Sorensen is a former USA National Team member who played on the 1996 Olympic team. He will assist Head Volleyball Coach Melissa Blessington in leading the existing women’s team and help build the University’s newly added men’s volleyball program.

 Sorensen’s 1996 Olympic team finished ninth, and he was an alternate for the U.S. Olympic Team in 2000. He played for the U.S. National Team in 1991 and from 1993-2000. Sorensen also played in the 1995 World Cup, the 1995 World League, the 1994 World League, the 1993 World League, the 1991 Pan American Games, the 1991 World League, the 1993 FIVB Grand Champions Cup, and the 1994 FIVB Super Four. He helped the men’s team to a silver in the 1995 Pan American Games, a bronze in the 1994 World Championships, and a silver in the 1993 NORCECA Zone Championship.

Sorensen was named the United State Olympic Committee’s Volleyball Player of the Year in 1997 and earned the National Team’s Coaches’ Award in 1993. He also played on the AVP Tour in 2001 and 2005.

A four-year letterman at Pepperdine University, Sorensen led the Waves to the 1992 NCAA National Championship. He was the 1990 National Freshman of the Year, a four-time All-Conference selection, and was named All-American in 1991, 1992, and 1993. He was also named to the 1992 NCAA All-Tournament Team, and to the All-MPSF Anniversary Team in 2007. Sorensen led the team in kills and service aces all four seasons, and in 1990 and 1993 was the team leader in blocks.

Sorensen made his mark in the Wave record book and is ranked in the top 10 in kills, kills per set, total kill attempts, service aces, service aces per set, solo blocks, block assists, total blocks, blocks per set, points, and points per set.
