Herd is in his first season as a graduate assistant with OU athletic performance and powerlifting programs.

Herd comes to Ottawa University from Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas. While at TSU, Herd was a coach and vice president for the Tarleton Powerlifting Club. He designed and implemented training programs for male and female raw collegiate powerlifters. Herd coached proper technique, designed meet-day plans for the athletes, coached the athletes during competition, and severed various administrative roles for the club. He also competed for the Tarleton Powerlifting Club. Since 2015, Herd has been competing in USA Powerlifting meets. He has won four USA Powerlifting tournaments. Herd was named to the Dean’s List eight times at TSU, was named TSU Club Powerlifting MVP in the spring of 2018 and was named TSU’s Kinesiology Outstanding Departmental Undergraduate for the summer of 2018.

Herd was also a Tarleton Athletic Performance Undergraduate Intern. He assisted coaching technique and execution of barbell, dumbbell, kettlebell, bodyweight, and machine movements. Herd also assisted in coaching athletes both in and out of season. He assisted in coaching football, volleyball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, baseball, softball, men’s and women’s cross country, and men’s and women’s track athletes.

For two years, Herd was a personal trainer and sports nutritionist at the Tarleton State University Recreational Center.  He designed and implemented training programs for a variety of clientele to improve strength, body composition, anaerobic and aerobic conditioning, agility, speed, coordination, and flexibility. Herd also helped out for three seasons at Jacksboro High School as an assistant powerlifting coach.

Herd is currently pursing Strength and Conditioning Coaching (SCCC) certification. He is also pursuing College Strength and Conditioning Coach certification (CSCS). Since 2016, Herd has been certified as a National Association of Sports Medicine Personal Trainer and an International Sports Science Association Sports Nutritionist.  

Herd graduated from Tarleton State University with a bachelor of science degree in kinesiology in fitness management. He is working on a master of arts in education in curriculum and Instruction.
