Clarence Anderson

Coach Anderson is in his first season as an assistant coach with the OU track and field program.

Anderson is no stranger to Ottawa University, as he is one of the most decorated athletes to ever wear the black and gold. He was a four-year letterwinner in football and track. Anderson finished his four-year football career with 279 receptions for 4,329 yards and 49 touchdowns. He averaged 15.5 yards per reception, 7.2 receptions per game, and 111 yards receiving per game. Anderson had 6,799 all-purpose yards (73 rushing, 4,329 receiving, 635 punt returns, 343 kick returns). He averaged 174.3 all-purpose yards per game. 

Anderson is in the top 10 in the OU record book with 24 school records. He was the first Brave to have three straight seasons of 1,000 yards receiving, was a three-time First Team All-KCAC selection at receiver, a two-time AFCA First Team All-American, was twice named a Sporting News Preseason NAIA All-American, was a Consensus Draft Services (CDS) Preseason NAIA All-American and was named a DII vs. NAIA Senior Bowl Preseason NAIA All-American.

Anderson helped the Braves to two KCAC Championships (2009, 2011), a NAIA Football Championship Series victory in 2009, and three NAIA Football Championship Series appearances (2009, 2010, 2011).

On the track, Anderson holds three indoor and four outdoor school records and was a NAIA Outdoor Track and Field All-American in 2012 in the 4x100M Relay and the 200M. Anderson was a 10-time All-KCAC performer and a nine-time KCAC Champion in outdoor track and a two-time indoor All-KCAC performer and two-time KCAC Champion.

Anderson also was a graduate assistant coach for the OU football program from 2016 to 2018 where he was the receivers coach, video coordinator, and recruiter. He scouted opponents and prepared practice plans and game schemes.

Prior to returning to OU, Anderson was an assistant coach at NCAA Division II William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo., from March 2020 to February of 2023. He was the passing game coordinator, special teams coordinator, and receivers coach for the Cardinals. Anderson planned the WJC passing game and planned and organized all of the Cardinal special teams.

Before coaching at William Jewell, Anderson was an assistant coach at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kan., from December 2018 to March 2020. As a member of the Swede coaching staff, Anderson was the passing game coordinator. He coached and mentored quarterbacks, receivers, punt and kick returners. Anderson also planned passing game routes and plays.

Anderson played professionally for the Wichita Force of the Arena Football Association in Wichita, Kan., where he was a starting receiver, return specialist and receivers coach. He was named Player of the Week on multiple occasions and helped the Force to the 2016 Champions Indoor Football (CIF) Championship.

He also played for the Warsaw Eagles in the Polish Football League and was a receiver, return specialist, and receivers coach. He was named the 2013 and 2014 Returner of the Year, was an Ambassador for American Football in a foreign country, and his punt return of 75 yards for a touchdown was featured as a play on ESPN’s SportsCenter Top 10 Play/Player of the Day.

Anderson was inducted into the Kansas Pro Indoor Football Hall of Fame in 2019 and will be inducted into the Braves Athletic Hall of Fame in 2023.

Anderson graduated from Ottawa University in December of 2016 with a degree in sports studies with a concentration in recreation. He earned his masters in Education from OU in May of 2021 with a concentration in curriculum and instruction.
