Coach Poston is in his sixth season as the head coach of the OU women's bowling program. He was named University Director of Bowling Operations in the summer of 2022 for the OUAZ and OUKS bowling programs.
Poston's 2021-22 team spent the season nationally ranked and had seven top 10 finishes. Ottawa won the Bronco Bash and finishes fourth at the KCAC/GPAC Tournament and eighth at the USBC Sectionals. Poston was named Conference Coach of the Year.
With Poston at the helm in 2020-21, the Braves earned its first trip to the NAIA National Tournament, finishing ninth. The team had seven top five finishes, placing second in two tournaments. Rebekah Loker make it to the Sweet 16 of the USBC ISC Singles Championships, the first OU women's bowler to do so. Four Braves were named to the All-Conference team.
In a CoVID-19 shortened season, 2019-20, the Braves finished the year with seven top 10 finishes and a championship at the Bronco Open.
Ottawa earned eight top 10 finishes and two tournament championships in Poston's second season in 2018-2019.
It was a season of firsts in the inaugural 2017-18 season. The Braves captured the Jayhawk Collegiate Challenge, had its first All-American, and signed its first Dexter High School All-American. Ottawa had eight top 10 finishes.
Poston has been involved in bowling for more than 35 years and coaching for more than 20 years. He has also spent time on the PBA Regional Tour, winning the Gardner Master’s Floor Covering Championship in 1999. From 2011 to 2015, he was President of the Kansas Bowling Coaches Association. Poston was named to the 2019 Kansas State USBC Hall of Fame and the 2018 USBC Kaw Valley Topeka Bowling Association Hall of Fame.
Before coming to Ottawa University, Poston was the head men’s and women’s bowling coach at Topeka Seaman High School (2009-2017). While at Seaman, he coached the varsity and junior varsity teams, which consisted of 26 to 30 men and women. Poston was named the 2017 Kansas Bowling Coach of the Year, the Kansas 5A Coach of the Year, and he was named the 2016-17 Midwest Sectional Coach of the Year for girls bowling. He scheduled fundraisers, handled the teams scheduling and organized practices. Poston helped lead the men’s team to a record of 411-77 and the women’s team to a record of 331-121 during his tenure. The men’s team has had six Kansas State Tournament appearances and four top three team finishes, including the 2017 KSHSAA 5A-1A Kansas State Team Championship. The women’s team had two regional championship runner-up finishes, a 2017 regional championship, and won the 2011 KSHSAA 5A-1A Kansas State Team Championship.
Poston was named the 2012 Centennial League Coach of the Year, the 2011 Kansas State Coach of the Year, the 2011 5A-1A Coach of the Year, the 2011 Topeka Seaman High School Coach of the Year, and the 2010 Centennial League Coach of the Year.
Prior to that, Poston was the head men’s and women’s bowling coach at Topeka West High School from 2005 to 2009. He started the program at TWHS, leading the Charger men’s team to a record of 132-49. The Chargers qualified twice for the Kansas State Tournament, finishing second in 2007. Under Poston’s leadership, the women’s team finished with a record of 153-34 which included two regional championships and three top three team finishes at the Kansas State Tournament.
In Poston’s 12 years at the high school level, he has a boy’s coaching record of 543-126 and a girls coaching record of 484-155.
