Makena Wilson

Coach Wilson is in her first season as an assistant coach with the OU women's indoor and beach programs after spending the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons as a graduate assistant.

 Wilson has spent the previous two seasons as a graduate student where she was a member of the coaching staff for both the indoor and outdoor programs. She helped the Braves indoor program to two KCAC regular season and conference championships and two NAIA National Tournament appearances. Wilson was named the 2022 Tri-State Conference Coach of the Year in Beach and coached the pair of the year, two first team pairs, one second team pair, and one third team pair.

Wilson is also involved with the MAVS club volleyball program, serving as an assistant with the 13-1 select team and as head coach of the 14-1 select team. The 13-1 select team placed in every tournament in 2020-21.  In 2021-22, the 14-1 select team has placed in every tournament the team participated in.

Before coming to Ottawa University, Wilson was a student assistant coach with the Florida Southern College women’s volleyball program. While at FSC, she was also an assistant coach with the beach volleyball program. Wilson assisted the head coach in off season workouts and practices.

Wilson graduated from FSC with a bachelor of arts in history. She was named to the President’s List in four out of six semesters. Wilson earned an associate of arts degree from Grossmont College.

At FSC, she helped the indoor team to a 2017 NCAA Division II National Runner-up finish, a Sunshine State Conference Championship, and a South Regional Championship. Wilson was a member of the inaugural FSC beach volleyball team in 2018 and was named the 2019 MVP.

While at Grossmont College, she helped them to a 2015 and 2016 PCAC Championship, a third-place finish at the 2016 State Tournament, a 2017 conference championship, and a third place finish at the State Tournament. In beach, Wilson led GC to a conference, a South Regional, and a State Championship.

Wilson is working on a masters of arts in leadership from Ottawa University.
