Joshua Portillo

Coach Portillo is in his second season as Assistant Coach for the women's wrestling program.

Before joining Ottawa, Portillo worked as a wrestling instructor/camp counselor at many camps around the country. He taught different techniques to wrestlers and handled operations for the camps. Portillo is also a Certified Mindset Coach, in which he mentors athletes to maximize their potential and helps upgrade student-athletes' mental health.
 
Portillo graduated from the University of Nebraska-Kearney and had an impressive career on the mat for the Lopers. He was a five-time NCAA qualifier, a four-time NCAA All-American, a two-time NCAA Finalist, and the NCAA DII Tech Fall leader (given to the highest scorer in (NCAA DII). Portillo earned the NCAA Elite 90 award twice, which is awarded to the athlete with the highest GPA at each NCAA Tournament and also won the Loper Wrestling Style award, which is awarded to the athlete who coaches believe epitomizes "The Team". He won substantial recognition in the MIAA conference by earning scholar-athlete for four years and was a two time MIAA First Team performer. Portillo was also a chair of the Mortar Board Honors Society at Nebraska-Kearney.
