Darchelle Welch

Coach Welch is in her second season as head coach of the OU men's and women's cross-country teams. She is also an assistant coach with the OU track and field program.

Welch comes to Ottawa University from Baker University where she was an assistant cross country and track coach. She also worked as an admissions counselor. During her time at Baker, Welch was an assistant coach at Hot Feet Track Club, a summer AAU and Junior Olympic Track and Field Club that trained athletes from Kansas and Missouri.

Before her time at Baker, Welch was the head boys and girls cross-country coach at Permian High School-Ector County Independent School District in Odessa, Texas. She was also an assistant track and field coach, working the middle distance and distance runners.

Welch has also worked with cross-country and track athletes at Bryan High School in Bryan, Texas, Comal Independent School District in New Braunfels, Texas, Copperas Cove Independent School District in Copperas Cove, Texas, and the Temple Independent School District in Temple, Texas.

She is certified in CPR, as a USA Weightlifting Instructor, and as a USATFCCA coach.  Welch is a Certified Master Official and coach for USA Track and Field.

Welch graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in kinesiology, nutrition and exercise science and a minor in business in 2002. She earned her certification in chemical forensic science from Washburn University in 2004. Welch is currently working on her masters in sports management from Baker University.
