Coach Hinderliter is in his 10th season as an assistant coach with the men's and women's wrestling programs.
Hinderliter has been involved with wrestling since 1988 when, as Police Chief of Wellsville, Kan., he formed the Wellsville Kid Matters. He was also heavily involved with the USA Wrestling-Kansas organization. Hinderliter attended his first Silver College, a National Coaches Education Program (NCEP), in 1999 as part of the USA Wrestling. He has since instructed in over 100 Bronze level courses as part of USAW and has certified over 3,000 coaches in wrestling.
In 2000, Hinderliter accepted the position of Coaches Certification and Development Manager for USAW-KS. Because of his efforts, Hinderliter was named National Instructor of the Year for USA Wrestling’s NCEP in 2009 and 2012.
Hinderliter was named Central Heights High School’s (CHS) head wrestling coach, a position he held from 2002 to 2014. At CHS he had 22 state qualifiers. While he was coaching at CHS, Hinderliter continued to help with USAW summer programs and Team Kansas.
He is well respected in the wrestling community. In 2004, Hinderliter was named USAW-KS Kid’s Person of the Year and in 2009 he was the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association’s Contributor of the Year. In 2008 he was asked to help write the second edition of USAW’s Bronze Book. That same year Hinderliter received USAW Gold Coaching Certification.
Hinderliter enjoys golfing, fishing, and camping. He was also an assistant football coach for over 20 years at Wellsville High School and CHS. Hinderliter loves spending time with his wife Kathy Jo and their six grandchildren.
