OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa university women's soccer team heads to Kansas City for a Sunday morning matchup against the Avila Eagles at 11 a.m.
Both teams have only lost one of their last six games, but three of those results ended in a tie. Ottawa stringed together two straight wins over Sterling and Saint Mary before a 3-3 draw against Tabor in their last match, while the Eagles have a 2-1 win over McPherson and a 0-0 draw against Southwestern in their last two games.
Ottawa has a slight 10-7 record in the series history, but the Eagles have had the upper hand in the last three matchups dating back to 2019. In last year's match, Eagles' junior forward Morgan Pettlon scored two goals in a 2-0 win for Avila on the road at Ottawa.
Jessenia Velez has scored in back-to-back games, leading the Braves with three goals on the season. Sydney Johnson and
Shaylee Miacolo both scored in the last match against Tabor, and are now tied with
Denaya Evans with two goals on the season. Six other players have scored at least one goal.
The Braves will have to keep an eye on Avila's leading scorers Kirryn Killingsworth and Pettlon, who netted two goals in last year's matchup. Killingsworth and Pettlon have tallied four goals each, while junior defender Amaris Sigler has contributed three goals this season.
