NORTH NEWTON, Kan. – It was a tale of two halves on Wednesday evening, as the Ottawa University women's soccer team fought back to a 2-2 draw on the road against the Bethel Threshers.
Bethel scored two goals in quick succession to draw first blood, scoring the game's opening goal in the 27
th minute and following with another in the 30
th minute. It could have been more, but Braves' keeper
Willow Good made three saves in the first half to keep OU from going behind any further. The Threshers outshot OU 8-3 in the first half, with the Braves unable to find any offense. OU's best chance in the first half came from
Jessenia Velez in the 13
th minute, forcing the only save of the half from Threshers' keeper Victoria Esquivel.
Down 2-0 to begin the second half, Ottawa got the exactly the start they needed when
Reighna Werner scored to cut the Braves' deficit in half. Werner scored on a 30-yard rocket from outside the box for her first goal of the season. The Braves continued to push for the equalizer, finally coming in the 67
th minute from
Carolina Jennerwein. Jennerwein's goal started from combination play between
Isabelle Conte and
Ivett Acevedo, with Acevedo whipping a cross into the box. The ball bounced around between a few players before fell to Jennerwein, burying the ball into the back of the net to tie the game at 2-2.
