OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University men's basketball team opened its 2022-23 season with a 118-82 victory over Kansas Christian College on Friday night in Wilson Field House.
The Braves opened the first half with the early lead and had a 14-9 advantage over the Falcons after a 3-pt field goal by
Deondre Buggage. Kansas Christian rallied, tying the game at 14-14 with 14:53 left in the first half.
Ottawa retook the lead and after a 3-pt field goal by
Ricardo Zambrano, Ottawa led 25-16. The Falcons again cut into the Brave lead and were within five points, 31-26. Ottawa responded with an 8-0 run, taking a 39-26 lead over KCC on a basket by Buggage with 7:42 to go in the half.
The Falcons chipped away the deficit and cut OU's lead to 39-36 at the 5:34 mark. Ottawa answered with a five straight points, taking a 44-36 lead on a basket by
Tristen Hull. Kansas Christian cut into the Brave lead and with 2:17 left in the half, were with in 46-40. The Braves responded by ending the half on a 15-2 run, taking a 61-42 lead into the locker room.
OU pushed its lead to 22 points at the start of the second half on a basket by
Ty Bland, 66-44. The Ottawa defense held the Falcons to 1-for-9 shooting from behind the 3-pt line in the second half, taking the 118-82.

- Elijah Mason scored 13 points, Ty Bland finished the game with 11 points, and Amil Fields and Ryan Torrey came off the bench to score 10 points apiece.
- Ian Moore tied for the team lead with Hull in assists, finishing with five.

Ottawa (1-0) will now play Haskell Indian Nations University in its second game of the Braves Booster Classic in Wilson Field House on Saturday, Oct. 29. The game is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
