OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University women's soccer team was held to a scoreless 0-0 draw against the Bethany Swedes on Friday evening at AdventHealth Field.
It was a frustrating night for the Braves because they had the chances but couldn't find a breakthrough. Ottawa outshot Bethany 14-6 and had nine shots on target, forcing nine saves from Swedes' keeper Mackenzie Nutter. Braves' keeper
Willow Good was not called into action often during the match, only needing two saves to keep a shutout.
Swede's keeper Nutter also made it difficult for the Braves to play direct long balls, effective in a sweeper/keeper role and coming way off her line multiple times in the match to intercept long through balls played in by Ottawa. The Braves found their best scoring opportunities with more diagonal passes out wide, with
Jessenia Velez and
Ivett Acevedo creating plenty of chances.
Bethany had a few chances of their own, with their best coming in the 60
th minute. Ottawa's keeper Good had some help from her back line, when defender
Samantha Pruett had a defensive goal line save on a shot from Bethany's Jysell Sampedro.
Up Next: The Braves travel to North Newton on Wednesday, Oct. 12 for a 5 p.m. matchup against the Bethel Threshers.
