Braves Upend Park, 70-60

OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University women's basketball team won its second straight game, defeating Park University 70-60 in Wilson Field House on Thursday evening.

Both teams struggled to score in the first quarter with a total of six field goals made, three by each team. It was Ottawa's ability to get to the free throw line that gave the Braves the lead at the end of the first quarter of play. OU was 8-for-10 from the charity stripe while Park was 3-for-4 and Ottawa had a 14-9 lead at the start of the second.

The scoring picked up for OU in the second quarter with Nicole Brown's basket giving the Braves a 16-9 lead at the start of the quarter. Ottawa pushed its lead to double figures and at the 5:19 mark, an Ahoneste Walker 3-pt field goal gave the Braves a 26-11 lead. Park rallied in the final three minutes of the half, outscoring OU 8-3 and the Braves took a 29-19 lead into the locker room.

In the third quarter, OU pushed its lead to its largest of the game. Walker's 3-pt field goal at the 4:09 mark gave the Braves a 47-30 lead. The Pirates chipped away at the Brave lead and as the buzzer sounded, ending the third, OU's lead was 50-43.

The Braves pushed its lead back to double digits, 57-47 on a basket by Hailey Henry in the fourth quarter. Park continued to stay close and with a minute to go in regulation, had cut the Brave lead to five points, 65-60. The Pirates then started to foul, sending Jayla Johnson to the free throw line. She made both attempts to give the Braves a 67-60 lead.

Ottawa's defense came up with an important stop and with 15 seconds on the clock, Katelyn Alatini hit a three to give OU a 70-60 lead. That was the nail in the coffin for Park's chances of a comeback and the Braves took the 70-60 victory.
