OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University men's basketball team defeated Avila University 81-80 on Saturday afternoon in Wilson Field House.
Ian Moore's 3-pt field goal at the buzzer gave the Braves their sixth victory of the season.
The Braves had a 15 point lead, 23-8, over Avila with 9:12 left in the first half after a basket by
Deondre Buggage. Avila rallied, ending the half on a 29-11 run to take a 37-34 lead into the locker room.
Ottawa opened the second half on a 11-3 run, taking a 45-40 lead over Avila after a basket by
Ty Bland. The Braves continued to hold their lead and with 5:37 on the clock, led 68-60 after two
Ian Moore free throws.
Avila responded with an 11-2 run, to take a 71-70 lead over the Braves at the 3:06 mark. A Moore basket on the Braves next offensive possession gave OU a 72-71 lead. Avila answered with five straight points to take a 76-72 lead over the Braves.
Ottawa tied the game at 78-78 on a Buggage 3-pt field goal with 28 seconds on the clock. After a time out by the Braves, AU's Donte' Simpson was fouled. He went the to line and made both free throws, giving Avila the lead 80-78 with six seconds on the clock.
Ottawa inbounded the ball after the Eagle time out and Bland pushed the ball up the floor. He found an open Moore on the wing. Moore's 3-pt field goal attempt went through the basket as the buzzer sounded, giving OU the 81-80 victory.
