OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University women's basketball team got back on the winning track with a 57-51 victory over Bethel College on Thursday night in Wilson Field House.
Nicole Brown finished the night with seven blocks which is ranked fourth in the OU record book in single game blocks.
The Braves jumped out to 7-3 lead in the first quarter of play at the 7:29 mark. Bethel chipped away at the OU lead and took a 17-13 lead into the second quarter.
Ottawa scored the first four points of the second quarter on baskets by
Nicole Brown to tie the game at 19. OU retook the lead on a jumper by
Maria Moore, 19-17 with 7:42 left in the half. The Braves had a slight advantage over the Threshers and with 2:23 on the clock, a basket by Brown gave OU a 26-23 lead. Bethel answered by ending the half on a 6-2 run, taking a 29-28 lead into the locker room.
OU opened the second half by scoring the first five points, taking a 33-29 lead on a
Ahoneste Walker free throw. Bethel did not go away and took a 36-35 lead over OU with 2:45 left in the third. Ottawa scored the next seven points and led 42-36 after two Moore free throws. Bethel answered by scoring the final five points of the third, cutting OU's lead to 42-41.
Bethel took a 48-46 lead over the Braves with 7:01 left in regulation. Baskets by
Nicole Brown and
Cierra Brown gave OU a 50-48 lead with 4:49 on the clock. Ottawa's defense tightened in the final minutes of the game, holding Bethel to three points as the Braves took the 57-51 victory.
