SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – The Ottawa University men's volleyball completed a reverse sweep of Dordt University in the GPAC Tournament Semifinals on Wednesday night, 3-2; 25-27, 23-25, 25-15, 25-18, 15-10. The Braves tied the school record for team blocks in a match with 17.5.
How it Happened
- Ottawa took an early 8-5 lead over Dordt in set one. A kill by Akeil Williams gave the Braves a 13-9 lead. Dordt rallied, cutting OU's lead to 14-13. The Braves answered by scoring four straight points, taking an 18-13 lead. Dordt chipped away at the Brave lead and took a 21-20 lead. Ottawa tied the set on a DU service error, 21-21. The Defenders retook the lead, 22-21. A Dordt service error tied the set at 22-22. DU scored the next two points to take a 24-22 lead. Ottawa answered with two straight points, a kill by Corey Johnson and a Defender attacking error, 24-24. The teams exchanged points and the set was tied again, 25-25. Dordt, however, was able to score the next two points, taking the set 27-25.
- The Braves opened set two with an 8-5 lead on an Ashan Jordan kill. Ottawa held the lead for most of the set and after a block by Alex Taylor and Cade Berg, led 18-12. Dordt answered by ending the set on a 13-7 run, taking a 25-23 victory.
- With their backs against the wall, Ottawa jumped out to a 5-2 lead in set three. Kills by Taylor and Jordan and a block by Cade Berg gave OU a 9-4 lead. The Braves increased their lead to 18-11, leading to a Dordt time out. The time out didn't slow down the Braves. Kills by Jordan and Brennan Hagar gave OU a 22-12 lead. Ottawa held Dordt to three points for the remainder of the set, taking the 25-15 victory.
- Dordt took the lead at the start of set four, 10-8. Ottawa rallied and tied the set at 13-13. Kills by Williams and Berg gave OU a 15-13 lead. A Jordan service ace gave OU a 22-17 lead. Dordt scored its final point of the set to cut OU's lead to 22-18. The Braves scored the final three points of the set, taking the 25-18 victory.
- Ottawa rushed out to a 6-1 lead over Dordt in set five on a Hagar service ace. A Jordan kill gave OU an 8-5 lead. Dordt scored the next two points, cutting OU's lead to 8-7. The Braves answered with three straight points, taking an 11-7 lead. The Defenders scored two more points, cutting the Brave lead to 11-9. A kill by Taylor gave the Braves a 12-9 lead. Ottawa increased its lead to 13-9 on a Williams kill. A block by Berg and Williams gave Ottawa a 14-9 lead. Dordt scored the next point to get within 14-10. The Braves took the set on the next point, a Williams kill, 15-10.
