OTTAWA, Kan. – The (RV) Ottawa University men's lacrosse team came out on top against the #6 seed Midland Warriors with a 13-6 win on Saturday evening in the opening round of the KCAC Tournament. The Braves will have a rematch against #2 seed Benedictine on Thursday. Game time to be announced.
Midland controlled the tempo in a low scoring opening quarter, looking to slow things down and keep the ball away from Ottawa's potent offense. After the Warriors scored the first two goals, the Braves got on the board with a goal from
Dakota Lepker at the 4:14 mark of the first quarter. The Braves found some offense in the second quarter by outscoring the Warriors 3-1, but still wasn't firing on all cylinders. OU headed into halftime with just a 4-3 lead.
After a fiery halftime speech from Coach
Seth Matlock, the Braves started the second half with more tempo and energy. The Braves responded with four straight goals in the first five minutes of the second half, and outscored Midland 5-2 in the third period. Up 9-5 heading into the final period, OU outscored Midland 4-1 in the fourth to close out the 13-6 win.
