Braves Capture Second Straight KCAC Invitational Championship

OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University women's flag football team captured the program's second straight KCAC Invitational Championship on Saturday afternoon at AdventHealth Field. The Braves defeated Midland University 34-6 in the semifinals and took a 34-7 victory over Kansas Wesleyan University in the championship game.

Midland
Ottawa scored the first 13 points of the game on two touchdowns passes from Madysen Carrera to Jazlyn Camacho. Midland cut into the lead with a touchdown at the 8:59 mark in the second quarter and OU took a 13-6 lead in into the half.

The Braves extended its lead over the Warriors with 17 second to go in the third. Carrera and Camacho connected for the third time. The Alyssa Linkous extra point attempt was good and the Braves had a 20-6 lead at the start of the fourth quarter.

Ottawa increased its lead over Midland at the 8:44 mark in the fourth. Carrera found an open Clara Beaudoin for the touchdown. Beaudoin's extra point attempt was good the Braves had a 27-6 lead. OU scored one more touchdown in the game. Carrera threw a two yard touchdown pass to Linkous. Bailey Hodgins' extra point attempt was good and the Braves took the 34-6 victory.

Inside the Box Score
  • Ottawa had 261 yards of offense, 170 through the air and 91 on the ground. Midland finished the game with 81 yards rushing and 148 yards passing for 229 yards of offense.
  • Madysen Carrera rushed for 85 yards on eight attempts. She also threw for 170 yards and five touchdowns (17-for-22).
  • Jazlyn Camacho had five receptions for 76 yards and three touchdowns.
  • Abby Brown and Jennifer Anthony finished the game with seven tackles apiece.
Kansas Wesleyan
Ottawa struck first, taking the early lead over Kansas Wesleyan with 6:59 to go in the first quarter. Madysen Carrera ran the ball in from five yards out. Her extra point attempt was good and OU had a 7-0 lead.

The Braves increased their lead in the second quarter. Carrera scrambled for the six yard touchdown and Ottawa had a 13-0 lead over the Coyotes. Ottawa scored one more touchdown in the half, finding the endzone with 17 seconds on the clock. Carrera threw a 31 yard touchdown pass to Jazlyn Camacho. Camacho's extra point attempt was good and Ottawa took a 20-0 lead into the locker room.

OU scored another touchdown with 7:42 to go in the third quarter. Carrera threw her second touchdown pass of the game, this one a 28 yard pass to Bailey Hodgins. Alyssa Linkous converted the extra point attempt and OU led 27-0.  

Ottawa scored its final touchdown of the game with 11:09 left in the contest. Sidney Rood threw a back-ward pass to Carrera she ran the ball in from 11 yards out. Hodgins extra point attempt was good and the Braves had a 34-0 lead.

Kansas Wesleyan scored the final touchdown of the game with 5:30 on the clock. Brianna Hernandez-Silva threw a one yard touchdown pass to Angel Roman. The extra point attempt by Hernandez-Silva was good and OU took the game 34-7.

Inside the Box Score
  • OU had 280 yards of offense, 210 yards passing and 70 yards rushing. Kansas Wesleyan finished the game with 31 yards rushing and 153 yards passing.
  • Madysen Carrera rushed for 75 yards and two touchdowns. She went 15-for-24 through the air for 177 yards and three touchdowns.
  • Addison Orsborn had five receptions for 36 yards.
  • Bailey Hodgins led OU with 74 yards receiving
  • Hodgins and Jazlyn Camacho had one touchdown reception apiece.
  • Briana Bido led OU with six tackles.

Ottawa (12-2) will now compete in the NAIA National Invitational Tournament May 12 through May 14 in Atlanta, Ga.
