WLAX: RV Braves Take Down the Saint Mary Spires, 23-1

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The Ottawa University women's lacrosse team took down the Saint Mary Spires on Thursday in Leavenworth, 23-1.
Ottawa scored the first nine goals in the first quarter to go up 9-0 over Saint Mary. Quinn Crandall scored three goals, Mackenzie Simmons added two, and Jasmin Roybal, Cecily Anderson, Meagan Gilstrap and Ashley Santillan found the back of the net once each. Crandall assisted on the three of the goals, Roybal and Gilstrap contributed one assist each. Saint Mary was able to score before the end of the first quarter but at the end of one, Ottawa held a commanding 9-1 lead. Cecily Anderson scored four of her eight goals in the second quarter to give Ottawa a 13-1 lead. Roybal and Simmons also joined in on the scoring in the second to extend Ottawa's lead to 15-1. The Braves went into halftime with a 15-1 lead.

The Braves continued their offensive surge by throwing in three more goals in the third to push their already big lead to 18-1. Anderson added to her goal count by scoring two more goals and Crandall scored once as well. Simmons and Crandall were the two that had assists in the third. In the fourth quarter, OU found the back of the net five more times before the end of the contest. Gilstrap led Ottawa with two goals in the fourth, followed by Santillan, Crandall and Anderson with one. Ottawa didn't let Saint Mary score the remaining minutes of the fourth and took the game by a final score of 23-1.

Cecily Anderson led the Braves with eight goals. Quinn Crandall finished an all-around performance with five goals and six assists. Mackenzie Simmons and Meagan Gilstrap each had three goals apiece. Ashley Santillan and Jasmin Roybal followed up with two goals each. Santillan, Gilstrap and Roybal contributed two assists and Simmons had one. Alyssa Jenne finished with one save in 30 minutes in net and Shelby Bearden had two saves in 30 minutes for the Braves. Ottawa outshot the Spires, 34-7.

The Braves will travel to Benedictine College for the last regular season on Tuesday, April 12th. Ottawa and Benedictine will meet in Atchison, Kan. at 4 p.m.
