Conte's Late Equalizer Earns Braves 2-2 Draw vs. Park Pirates

OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University women's soccer team found a late equalizer from Isabelle Conte with 14 seconds remaining to finish in a 2-2 draw against the Park Pirates on Saturday afternoon at AdventHealth Field.

An unlucky handball in the box set up a Pirates' penalty kick in the 26th minute. Park's leading scorer Dragana Andonovski blasted the ball into the back of the net from the penalty spot to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead. Despite OU dominating possession and having more quality chances, Pirates' keeper Felicitas Mueller made six saves in the first half to keep the Braves scoreless. There was still optimism for the Braves, with Park's second leading goal scorer and main playmaker Lenvix Ochieng getting sent off in the 40th minute after receiving her second yellow card. The Pirates remained ahead 1-0 heading into the break.

Despite playing a man down to start the second half, Andonovski doubled Park's lead with her second goal off a quick counterattack. From that point the Braves picked up the intensity, getting on the board in the 52nd minute thanks to a Carolina Jennerwein goal assisted by a Jessenia Velez give-and-go. The next 40 minutes would prove to be intense and chippy, with the Braves pushing forward to find a tying goal.

The Braves would get their equalizer in the 89th minute when Reighna Werner whipped in a cross that fell to Conte, and she slotted the ball into the net to knot the score at 2-2. With only 14 seconds remaining in regulation, both teams settled for the 2-2 draw.

Up Next: The Braves host Kansas Wesleyan at AdventHealth Field on Friday at 5 p.m. in the 2022 KCAC Opener.
