OTTAWA, Kan. – Back-to-back goals just one minute apart from
Patrick Wyatt and
Slobodan Novicevic were the difference in a 3-2 win over the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes on Friday night at AdventHealth Field. The match between the Braves and the Coyotes was the 2022 KCAC opener for both teams.
The Coyotes came out with pace to open the match, capitalizing on a quick counterattack goal from Steven Moya in the eighth minute to put the Braves down 1-0 early. The Braves would respond 15 minutes later, with a goal from
Bence Molnar to tie the score at 1-1. KWU was able to sneak in one more to take a lead into halftime, with another counterattack goal from Moya. The Coyotes seemed content to sit back and let the Braves bring the ball up in possession and try to hit back with quick attacks from their speedy forwards.
The Braves figured out the Coyotes in the second half and took control early when Wyatt and Novicevic scored the two goals that put the Braves up 3-2. The Coyotes had a few chances to tie the game, but none that really threatened Braves' keeper
Gage Powers who came up with three second half saves. Sensing the Coyotes desperation, things did get a little chippy in the final 30 minutes that saw four yellow cards given. In the end, the Braves held on for the 3-2 win.
