OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University women's volleyball team defeated Hastings College, 3-0; 25-16, 25-23, 25-14; on Friday evening in Wilson Field House. The win was OU's third straight victory and the Braves' first win against the Broncos.
How it Happened
- Kills by Kaitlyn Haller and Radaisy Valdez gave OU an 8-5 lead over Hastings in set one. Ottawa continued to pour on the pressure and after an Alexa Boyle kills, the Braves had a 21-11 lead. Hastings cut into OU's lead and was within 21-16. Ottawa responded by scoring the final four points of the set to take the 25-16 victory.
- Trailing 9-7 in set two, Ottawa scored the next three points to take a 10-9 lead on a block by Haller and Elli Rogers. OU pushed its lead to 15-11 after a Boyle kill. Hastings rallied, cutting OU's lead to 17-15. The Braves responded with three straight points to take a 19-15 lead. The Broncos rallied again, cutting OU's lead to 20-19. Ottawa answered with three straight points, taking a 23-19 lead on a Kennedi Wyrick service ace. Hastings did not go away and cut OU's lead to 24-23. Ottawa ended the set on the next point, a Haller kill, 25-23.
- The Braves took the early lead in set three, building it to a 10 point advantage over Hastings 18-8. Ottawa held the Broncos in check from the reminder of the set and took the 25-14 victory.
