TOPEKA, Kan. – The Ottawa University track & field teams had an impressive showing at the Washburn Rustbuster this weekend. There was a total of 29 personal records broken, 15 for the women's side and 14 for the men. The women's side took down three OU indoor school records over the course of the weekend.
Mumina Millington was the first Brave to break a school record at the meet, setting the OU indoor record in the 400m with a time of 59.08 seconds. Then came Jessenia Velez in the high jump, clearing 1.55m and surpassing the previous record set by High Shannon Kalowsek (1.524m) in 1994. The third and final school record to fall during the meet was in the 60m hurdle, set by
JayOnna Perry's time of 9.33s.
Perry also had PR's in the 400m (1:01.01) and high jump (1.5m).
Kayla Whiteaker ran an 8.92s 60m, setting a new PR for the sprinter.
Destiny Escobar added another PR with a time of 1:33.65 in the 600-yard run. In the middle distance events,
Lily Meyer had PR's in both the 800m (2:49.57) and mile run (6:34.53).
Juliet Lane set a new PR in the long jump, with a distance of 4.62m.
There were plenty of new PR's set by Braves' throwers in the field events.
Laurel Barber finished fifth in the shotput, with a new PR distance of 12.98m.
Deja Delaine was not far behind in 11
th place, another PR for OU with a throw of 11.51m.
Jaine Johnson (9.89m) and
Meadow Stull (7.47m) had PR's in the shotput as well. Delaine (14.26m) and Stull (9.25m) also tallied new PR's in the weight throw.
Jaylan Washington has been on a tear to begin this indoor season, finishing no worse than in third place in the 60m dash at every meet he's competed in. He came in second place at the Washburn Rust Buster, matching his personal record time of 6.77s which is also a school record. Washington also set a PR in the 200m this weekend, with a time of 22.10s.
Jahkoby Franklin (23.11s) and
Cameron Jackson (22.8s) both set new personal records in the 200m. Jackson (51.67s) set a personal record in the 400m as well, along with Kayron Johnson (51.10s) and Kennard Isaac Jr. (1:04.00).
The men's side had some new PR's in jumping events. Bryan Cooper had two PR's, one in the high jump (1.85m) and triple jump (12.41m).
Hadyn Bieling set a new PR with a 2m high jump, just a tenth of a meter of the NAIA National Qualifying "B" standard. Freshman
Joren Rentie also had PR's in the triple jump (11.21) and long jump (5.83m) in his first action in a Braves' uniform.
In the field events, Carter Genzen (9.15m) set a PR in the shotput while
Tyler Barrett (10.18m) had a PR in the weight throw.
