Braves and Swedes to Play in Wilson Field House on Thursday

The Braves fell in overtime, 106-98, to McPherson College on Monday night at The Sport Center. It was the fourth time in the last 10 games that the contest has gone into overtime. Ottawa shot 54.4 percent from the floor, 42.9 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 70.6 percent from the free throw line. The Braves had four players in double figures led by Ty Bland and Ian Moore with 22 points apiece. Deondre Buggage scored 19 points and Tristen Hull finished with 11 points.

Deondre Buggage leads the Braves in scoring (16.6) and assists (2.1) per game. Amil Fields is OU's leader in rebounding (7.5) and steals (1.6) per game. Elijah Mason leads the team in blocks (0.6) per game.

At home this season, Ottawa is 6-4 overall and 3-3 in KCAC play. In Wilson Field House, Ottawa is scoring 84.6 points while allowing 82.1 points per game. At home, Ottawa shoots 44.2 percent from the floor, 33.7 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 69.3 percent from the free throw line. Opponents shoot 42.5 percent from the floor, 35.7 percent from behind the arc, and 71.3 percent from the charity stripe.

Tristen Hull was named KCAC Offensive Player of the Week this past week for his efforts in OU's victory over, then, no. 4 Southwestern College. Hull scored 21 points and pulled down six rebounds. He shot 81.8 (9-11) from the floor and was 3-for-4 (75%) from the free throw line. Hull hit the game winning shot for the Braves with 13 seconds on the clock in OU's victory over the Moundbuilders.

Ottawa has four players averaging in double figures and two averaging nine points per game in Wilson Field House. Deondre Buggage (20), Ian Moore (12), Tristen Hull (18.6), Ty Bland (12.8), Amil Fields (9.8), and Elijah Mason (9.2).

This season, Ottawa is averaging 80.7 points, 36.8 rebounds, and 11.6 assists per game. OU is shooting 43.3 percent from the floor, 32.2 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 72.3 percent from the free throw line.

The Braves are ranked 30th in the NAIA in free throws made per game (15.3), 39th in free throws attempted per game (21.1), and 50th in defensive rebounds per game (27.6).

Ottawa's scoring has picked up in the last month compared to the first two months of the season. OU is scoring 81.2 points per game in January and shooting 45 percent from the floor. In November, the Braves averaged 78.6 points per game (42.6%) and in December they averaged 76.3 points per game (40.6%).

Thursday is the 192nd meeting between Ottawa University and Bethany College. Ottawa leads the series, 96-95 and is 3-2 in its last five games against the Swedes. Bethany won the first meeting this season in Lindsborg, 99-92, on Nov. 28. The first ever meeting between Ottawa and Bethany occurred on Feb. 15, 1907 in Lindsborg. The Swedes won the game 31-27.

Ottawa has won six straight against Bethany in Wilson Field House. OU's last loss to Bethany in Wilson Field House happened on Jan. 14, 2016. The Swedes won the game 83-80.

In Ottawa's 99-92 loss to Bethany on Nov. 28, OU shot 42.9 percent from the floor, 40.7 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 87.1 percent from the free throw line. The Braves had four players in double figures led by Amil Fields 26. He also led OU with seven rebounds. Ty Bland came off the bench to score 21 points, Ian Moore finished the game with 18 points, and Deondre Buggage scored 17 points. Buggage finished the game with five assists.

Bethany College is 12-9 overall, 8-7 in the KCAC, are on a three game winning streak, and are 2-7 on the road this season. The Swedes enter Thursday's game coming off a 66-61 victory over no. 2 Oklahoma Wesleyan University on Monday in Lindsborg.

In the win over OKWU, Bethany shot 42.4 percent from the floor, 36.8 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 90 percent from the free throw line. Oklahoma Wesleyan shot 15.8 percent from the floor and 33.3 percent from the free throw line in the loss to Bethany. BC's Justin Brookens led the team in scoring with 20 points. Solomon Clayton finished the game with 14 points and Malcolm Clayton scored 12 points.

Justin Brookens leads Bethany in scoring (19), Solomon Clayton is the team's leader in rebounding (7.3), Dylan Smith leads the Swedes in assists (3.2), Solomon Clayton is BC's leader in blocks (1.4), and Smith is the team's leader in steals (2.4) per game.

Bethany is averaging 75.5 points, 32.4 rebounds, and 12.1 assists per game. BC is shooting 44.1 percent from the floor, 34.1 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 72.1 percent from the free throw line.

The Swedes are ranked eighth in the NAIA in steals (10.5), 20th in opponent field goal percentage (.403), and 34th in opponent 3-pt field goal percentage (.300).

In nine road games this season, Bethany is averaging 68.3 points per game compared to the 84 points per game that the Swedes are averaging at home. On the road, BC is shooting 40.3 percent from the floor, 29.1 percent from behind the 3-pt line, and 69.2 percent from the free throw line.

In losses this season, Bethany is scoring 68.1 points per game while in its wins the Swedes are averaging 81.1 points per game.
