BELLEVUE, Neb. – The (21) Ottawa University women's volleyball team defeated Grand View University 3-2; 12-25, 25-16, 19-25, 26-24, 15-13; on Friday afternoon.
How it Happened
- Grand View scored the first five points of set one. Ottawa scored the next three points and was within 5-3 after a kill by Radaisy Valdez. Grand View then went on a 16-5 run, taking a 21-8 lead over the Braves. Ottawa was not able to chip away at the Viking lead and Grand View took the 25-12 victory.
- Two Viking errors gave the Braves a 7-4 lead in set two. A kill by Jontara West and a block by Lillian Holden and West increased the Brave lead to 11-5. Ottawa held Grand View in check for the remainder of the set, taking the 25-16 victory.
- In set three, Grand View had the early lead 6-2. Ottawa answered with seven straight points, taking a 9-6 lead on a Madison Brauner service ace. Grand View did not go away and retook the lead, 19-17. Ottawa was not able to answer and GVU took a 25-19 victory.
- Ottawa opened set four with an 8-3 lead. Grand View rallied, taking a 16-13 lead over the Braves. The Braves responded with a 4-1 run, tying the set at 17 all on a Chaney Barth kill. GVU scored the next two points to take a 19-17 lead. Two kills by Barth and a block by Holden and West gave OU a 20-19 lead. The teams then exchanged points and the set was tied 24-24. Ottawa retook the lead on a Valdez kill, 25-24, and ended the set on a Viking attacking error, 26-24.
- The Braves were the first to eight in set five. Grand View rallied and took a 10-9 lead over OU, leading to a Brave time out. Ottawa came out of the time out scoring the next two points and took an 11-10 lead on a Jadore Hayes service ace. Grand View answered by scoring the next point to tie the set, 11-11. Ottawa scored the next two points, a GVU service error and a Valdez kill, and OU had a 13-11 lead. The Vikings responded by scoring the next two points, tying the set 13-13. The Braves retook the lead on a block by Kira Cherry and Valdez, 14-13, and Grand View took a time out. That time out did not slow down the Braves. Ottawa took set on the next point, a GVU attacking error, 15-13.

- Two Braves finished the match with double digit kills. Radaisy Valdez had 23 kills and a .444 attacking percentage. She also had five digs and five blocks. Chaney Barth was the other Brave with double digit kills, finishing the match with 12.
- Ryleigh Sander had 25 assists and Madison Brauner finished with 24 assists.
