Ottawa and Sterling Meet for the 92nd OU Homecoming Game

Ottawa are on a two game winning streak after defeating the University of Saint Mary, 28-17, last Saturday in Leavenworth. OU finished the game with 162 yards passing and 363 yards on the ground for 525 yards of offense. Saint Mary had 318 yards of offense, 138 yards passing and 180 yards rushing. Ottawa's 363 yards rushing are the 10th most in program history and is the most yards the Braves have rushed for since they ran for 370 against USM in 2020.

The Braves had two 100 yard rushers and one 100 yard receiver in the win over Saint Mary. Wynton Ruth rushed for 162 yards on 22 attempts and scored one touchdown. He averaged 7.4 yards per carry. Malaki Peko finished the game with 134 yards rushing on 13 attempts, averaging 10.3 yards per carry. He had one rushing touchdown. De'Anthony Curtis led the Braves with six receptions for 101 yards. He scored two touchdowns.

Through seven games Ottawa's offense is averaging 346.1 yards per game, 203 yards on the ground and 143.1 yards passing per game. The OU offense is scoring 25.1 points per game. Opponents are averaging 392.1 yard of offense per game, 240.1 yards rushing and 152 yards through the air, and scoring 30.6 points per game.

Billy Maples is 79-for-159 for 951 yards and eight touchdowns this season. He is averaging 135.9 passing yards per game and is completing 50 percent of his passes. Wynton Ruth leads OU in rushing, averaging 87.4 rushing yards per game. He has 612 yards on the ground this season and has six rushing touchdowns. Jayden Johnson leads the Braves in receptions with 22. He is averaging 3.1 receptions per game and 42.6 receiving yards per game. AJ Hemphill leads OU in tackles with 80. He has one recovered fumble and two pass break ups. Kyle Reynolds is second on the team in tackles with 58. He has three interceptions and two pass break ups. James Gladden has 47 tackles and one forced fumble.

Saturday is the 58th meeting between Ottawa University and Sterling College. The Braves lead the series 30-27 but the Warriors are on a two game winning streak against OU.  SC won last year's game 28-13 against the Braves at AdventHealth Field on Nov. 5. The first meeting between the two teams happened on Nov. 10, 1922 in Ottawa. Sterling won the game, 13-3. This will be the fifth time that the two teams have met on the Braves' Homecoming. OU is 4-0 in those games: Oct. 31, 1992 W, 24-22 | Oct. 15, 2005 W, 44-34 | Oct. 22, 2011 W, 27-6 | Oct. 18, 2014 W, 42-41.

Sterling College has an overall record of 1-6 and a Bissell Division mark of 0-1. The Warriors enter Saturday's contest coming off a 24-10 loss to Tabor College last Saturday in Sterling. With the loss, the Warriors are on a three game losing streak.

The Warriors finished the game with 279 yards of offense, 157 yards passing and 122 yards on the ground. Tabor had 287 yards of offense, 124 yards through the air and 124 yards on the ground. Sterling had three fumbles, losing one and three interceptions in the loss.

Rocklin Baptista went 12-for-27 through the air for 157 yards and one touchdown. He also threw three picks. TC Smith led SC in rushing with 66 yards, averaging 3.5 yards per carry. Myreik Goodwin-Lagree had five receptions for 73 yards. Alan Garcia led SC in tackles with eight. He had one forced fumble. Blake Montgomery finished the game with eight tackles and Diego Moran had seven tackles and one pass break up.

Through seven games this season, Sterling is averaging 247 yards of offense per game, 113.6 yards through the air and 133.4 yards on the ground. SC is scoring 14 points per game. Opponents are scoring 41.3 points per game against the Warriors. Teams are averaging 430 yards of offense per game, 256.7 yards rushing and 173.3 yards through the air.

Rocklin Baptista leads Sterling is passing with 810 yards. He is completing 38.5 percent of his passes (55-143). Baptista has thrown five touchdowns and 11 interceptions. ElyJay Curry is SC's leader in rushing with 234 yards on 32 attempts for an average of 33.4 rushing yards per game. He is averaging 7.3 yards per carry and has scored one rushing touchdown. Myreik Goodwin-Lagree leads The Warriors in receptions with 13. He has 202 receiving yards, averaging 15.5 yards per reception and one receiving touchdown. Alan Garcia leads Sterling in tackles with 57. He has four forced fumbles. Hunter Pullen is right behind Garcia in tackles with 55. He has four pass break ups. Diego Moran is third on the team with 53 tackles. He has three pass break ups.
