Football Hosts Kansas Wesleyan on Saturday

Ottawa ran its winning streak to four games with a 42-14 victory over Avila University at The Z last Saturday. OU's 436 yards on the ground ranks fourth in the OU record book in single game rushing. Wynton Ruth also put his name in the Brave record book. He rushed for 268 yards on 26 carries which ranks him third all-time behind Derrick Ward (315) and Alonzo Smith (278). The Braves' four game winning streak is its first since 2015.

During OU's four game winning streak, the Braves are averaging 41.3 points per game while only allowing 15.3. OU is out rushing opponents 327 to 147 and is averaging 6.7 yards per play. Ottawa is also converting 44.6 percent of its third downs and 60 percent of its four down attempts. The OU defense is only allowing opponents to convert 23.1 percent of third down attempts.

Wynton Ruth has rushed for 100 or more yards in four straight games this season. In the last four games, he has rushed for 665 yards and six touchdowns. Ruth is averaging 8.8 yards per carry and 166.3 rushing yards per game. Because of his effort in OU's win over Avila last Saturday, he was named KCAC Offensive Player of the Week.

Malaki Peko rushed for 123 yards in the win over Avila. He has now rushed for 100 or more yards in two out of his last three games.

Through nine games this season Ottawa is averaging 370.9 yards of offense per game, 235.2 rushing and 135.7 passing. The Braves are scoring 30.3 points per game. Opponents are averaging 209 yards rushing per game and 146.8 yards through the air for a total of 355.8 yards of offense. They are scoring 27.2 points per game.

OU is ranked 31st in the NAIA in scoring (273), 36th in points per game (30.3), 25th in total offense (3,338), 40th in yards per game (370.9), fourth in rushing yards (2,117), eighth in rushing attempts (384), sixth in rushing yards per game (235.2), ninth in yards per rush (5.5), eighth in rushing touchdowns (23), 24th in first downs (184), sixth in rushing first downs (115), 15th in penalty first downs (20), 41st in first downs per game (20.4), and fourth in tackles (651).

Saturday is the 84th meeting between Ottawa University and Kansas Wesleyan University. OU leads the series, 43-35-5, but KWU is on an eight game winning streak against the Braves. Ottawa has not defeated KWU since Nov. 1, 2014 in Salina. The Braves won the game, 48-20. OU has lost its last four games at home to Kansas Wesleyan. Ottawa's last home victory over the Coyotes happened on Oct. 26, 2013 with OU taking the 55-27 victory. OU has a record of 25-15-3 against KWU at home. The first meeting between the two teams happened on Oct. 19, 1908 in Ottawa. OU won the game 30-5.

Kansas Wesleyan University is 7-2 overall and 3-0 in the Bissell Division. The Coyotes are on a six game winning streak. KWU's last loss was on Sept. 9, at Southwestern College, 24-3.

KWU enters Saturday's game coming off a 31-0 victory over Tabor in Hillsboro last Saturday. The Coyotes held the Bluejays to 148 yards of total offense. Kansas Wesleyan played three quarterbacks in the win. Byron McNair started the game. Daeden Taylor and Richard Lara both saw time under center. McNair threw for 184 yards and two touchdowns. The Coyotes had 412 yards of offense, 245 passing and 167 rushing.

Through nine games this season, the Coyotes are averaging 304.9 of offense per game. KWU is averaging 146.1 yards on the ground and 158.8 yards through the air. Kansas Wesleyan is scoring 21.3 points per game.

Opponents are averaging 262.4 yards of offense per game, 100 yards on the ground and 161.9 yards through the air. Opponents are scoring 13.7 points per game.

KWU is ranked 34th in the NAIA in passing yards per attempt (7.3), 19th in passing yards per completion (14.1), 37th in rushing yards (1,315), ninth in rushing attempts (371), 45th in rushing yards per game (146.1), 40th in rushing touchdowns (14), and ninth in tackles (622).

The Coyotes have played six quarterbacks this season. Richard Lara is 50-for-94 through the air for 563 yards and four touchdowns. Bryron McNair is 32-for-51 for 548 yards, two touchdowns, and four interceptions.

Tyler Boston leads KWU in rushing with 447 yards on 106 attempts. He has scored three touchdowns and is averaging 4.2 yards per carry. Rhadarious Lomax-Spivey leads the Coyotes in receiving with 20 receptions for 346 yards. He has two receiving touchdowns. Shaylan Lewis leads KWU in tackles with 61. He has two sacks, 5.5 tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles. Julian Urioste leads the team in pass break ups with eight. He is third on the team in tackles with 52.

KWU has fumbled the ball 14 times, losing 10. Opponents have fumbled the ball 19 times against the Coyotes. KWU has recovered 10 of those fumbles.
