LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The (25) Ottawa University women's volleyball team fell 3-1; 25-13, 25-15, 23-25, 25-23; to the University of Saint Mary at Ryan Sport Center on Wednesday night.
How it Happened
- Ottawa scored the first two points of set one. USM responded with a 7-2 run to take a 7-4 lead over OU. The Braves were not able to answer, and Saint Mary took the 25-13 victory.
- Saint Mary opened set two with the early lead. Ottawa chipped away at the deficit and after a Chaney Barth kill, OU was down 7-5. USM increased its lead to 13-8 but a kill by Bailee Nickel and a Carson Schuman service ace put OU within 16-12. The Braves were not able to get any closer and the Spires took the 25-15 victory.
- The Braves were trailing 23-16 to the Spires in set three when they staged a comeback. Nine straight points later, Ottawa took the 25-23 victory.
- Ottawa had a 4-1 lead to open set four. A block by Lillian Holden and a USM attacking error gave OU an 8-5 lead. Saint Mary rallied, taking a 16-13 lead over the Braves. OU did not go away and after a kill by Radaisy Valdez, Ottawa was within 23-22. After the Spire timeout, USM scored the next point, taking a 24-22 lead. Another kill by Valdez cut the Saint Mary lead to 24-23. Ottawa, however, was not able to complete the comeback. Saint Mary took the set and the match on the next point, 25-23.
