Football Travels to Dordt for its First NAIA FCS Appearance Since 2014

Ottawa's five game wining streak was snapped with a 31-28 loss to Tabor College last Saturday at AdventHealth Field. The Braves threw for 232 yards and rushed for 139. Tabor finished the game with 92 yards rushing and 258 though the air.

OU is averaging 365.1 yards of offense per game, 218.6 rushing and 146.5 passing. The Braves are scoring 29.8 points per game. Opponents are averaging 27.3 points per game and averaging 359.9 yards of offense per game, 197.9 yards rushing and 159 yards passing.

The Braves are ranked 32nd in the NAIA in scoring (328), 38th in points per game (29.8), 30th in total offense (4,016), 43rd in yards per game (365.1), fifth in rushing yards (2,405), 10th in rushing attempts (452), seventh in rushing yards per game (218.6), 12th in yards per rush (5.3), 10th in rushing touchdowns (26), 27th in first downs (222), ninth in rushing first downs (127), 12th in penalty first downs (25), 43rd in first downs per game (20.2), 22nd in third down conversions (62-162), 42nd in third down conversion percentage (.380), 16th in fourth down conversions (14-29), 36th in fourth down conversion percentage (.480), 11th in kick returns (No.-Yards) (39-900), seventh in kick return average (23.1), 29th in PATs (40-42), 30th in PAT% (.952), 47th in punts (No.-Yards) (44-1682), 22nd in average per punt (38.2), 50th in red zone percentage (.740), and fifth in tackles (800).

Billy Maples is 134-for-260 through the air for 1,547 yards, 13 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. He has also rushed for 258 yards and five touchdowns. Wynton Ruth is OU's leader in rushing with 1,107 yards on 171 attempts. He is averaging 100.6 yards rushing per game, 6.5 yards per carry, and has scored 11 touchdowns.

Jayden Johnson leads the Braves in receptions with 43. He has 595 receiving yards and has four receiving touchdowns. De'Anthony Curtis leads OU with five receiving touchdowns. AJ Hemphill leads the team in tackles with 125. That mark ties him for seventh in the OU record book in single season tackles. Hemphill has three pass break ups and one recovered fumble. James Gladden has 86 tackles, six sacks, and 13 tackles for loss. Kyle Reynolds is third on the team in tackles with 78. He has three forced fumbles, five interceptions, and two pass break ups from his safety position.

This will be the first time that Ottawa University and Dordt University have met on the football field.

OU has qualified for the NAIA Football Championship Series for the 10th time in program history. It is Ottawa's first appearance since 2014. The Braves have a record of 1-9 in the NAIA FCS. Ottawa's win in the FCS came against no. 13 Hastings College on Nov. 21, 2009 in Ottawa. The Braves rallied to take the 40-34 victory.

Dordt University has an overall record of 8-2, finished second in the GPAC with a record of 8-2, and is ranked no. 14 in the latest NAIA Football FirstDown Playbook Top 25 Poll.

The Defenders are 1-1 in games against NAIA Top 25 opponents. Dordt was defeated 35-14 to no. 1 Northwestern College on Oct. 21 but defeated no. 3 Morningside University, 28-24, for the first time in program history.

Through 10 games this season, Dordt is averaging 406.2 yards of offense per game, 246.1 rushing and 160.1 passing. The Defenders are scoring 34.3 points per game. Opponents are scoring 14.9 points per game against the Defenders and averaging 276.1 yards of offense per game, 74.1 yards rushing and 202 yards passing.

The Defenders are ranked 25th in the NAIA in scoring (343), 24th in points per game (34.4), 28th in total offense (4,062), 24th in yards per game (406.2), 50th in passing yards per attempt (6.8), fourth in rushing yards per game (2,461), 13th in rushing attempts (435), third in rushing yards per game (2461.), seventh in yards per rush (5.7), 21st in rushing touchdowns (22), 21st in rushing touchdowns (22), 28th in first downs (221), 12th in third down conversions (65-132), seventh in third down conversion percentage (.490), 42nd in kick return average (18.9), 31st in field goals (9-13), fifth in defensive TDs (4), fifth in sacks (36), and is sixth in penalties (45).

Kolson Kruse is 91-for-162 for 1,072 yards and 10 touchdowns. He has thrown seven interceptions. Kruse is averaging 119.1 passing yards per game. Nick Wellen leads the Defenders in rushing with 674 yards on 98 attempts. He is averaging 6.9 yards per carry and has scored four touchdowns.

Isaac Looker is DU's leader in receiving with 31 receptions for 443 yards and one touchdowns. Cade Rohwer leads the Defenders in receiving touchdowns with five. Stephen Leinen is Dordt's leader in tackles with 66. He has two sacks, one interception, and three pass break ups. Ian MacDonald has 58 tackles two interceptions and three pass break ups. Abraham Stoesz is third on the team in tackles with 57. He has three forced fumbles, two interceptions, and nine pass break ups.
