OTTAWA, Kan. – The (25) Ottawa University women's volleyball team won its KCAC Tournament opening round match, 3-0; 25-16, 25-19, 25-19; over Southwestern College on Tuesday night in Wilson Field House.
How it Happened
- With set one tied 6-6, Ottawa scored the next four points to take a 10-6 lead over the Moundbuilders. Kills by Radaisy Valdez and Blythe Manson gave OU a 13-7 lead. Ottawa continued to build upon its lead and after a Lillian Holden kill, OU led to 19-10. Southwestern was not able to rally and the Braves took the 25-16 victory.
- In set two, a block by Kira Cherry and Holden and a Holden kill gave the Braves a 7-5 lead. Kennedi Wyrick's service ace and a block by Manson and Valdez increased the OU lead to 13-9. Southwestern did not go away, rallying to take a 17-16 lead. A kill by Holden and an Asia Cole service ace gave OU an 18-17 lead. The Moundbuilders tied the set on the next point, 18-18. Ottawa responded by scoring the next three points, a SWC attacking error and two Valdez kills, taking a 21-18 lead. SWC scored the next point, cutting OU's lead to 21-19. The Braves answered by scoring the final four points of the set, taking the 25-19 victory.
- The Moundbuilders scored the first three points of set no. 3. Ottawa put together a 7-1 run, taking a 7-4 lead on a kill by Valdez. Katelyn Elstun's service ace, a block by Cherry and Holden, and a kill by Holden increased OU's lead to 15-8. Ottawa did not allow Southwestern to rally, taking the 25-19 victory.
