Women's Basketball Downs McPherson, 78-53

MCPHERSON, Kan. – The Ottawa University women's basketball team won its second straight game, defeating McPherson College 78-53 at the Sport Center on Saturday afternoon. The win was OU's third straight over the Bulldogs and 46th in the series.

The Braves found themselves down seven early, 12-5, to the Bulldogs. Ottawa chipped away at the McPherson lead and after a basket by Kennedy Bankett, OU was within 12-11 with 3:08 left in the quarter.

MC hit a three to push its lead to four points, 15-11. Ottawa held McPherson scoreless in the final two minutes of the first, scoring the final four points of the quarter to tie the game at 15 all.

Ottawa held McPherson scoreless for the first 3:13 of the second quarter. The Braves took advantage, scoring the first nine points of the second to take a 24-15 lead. A basket by Abby Dietsche and a three from Katelyn Alatini gave OU a 12 point lead, 29-17, with 4:39 left in the half.

McPherson cut into the Brave lead and with 1:36 on the clock, were within 31-25. Ottawa responded by pushing its lead to 10 points, 36-26. The Bulldogs, however, scored the final two points of the half on free throws by Matisyn Moses and OU had a 36-28 lead at the half.

In the second half it was all Braves as OU outscored the Bulldogs 42-25. Ottawa pushed its lead to 31 points, 64-33, on a 3-pt field goal by Katelyn Alatini. The Braves were able to empty their bench and OU took the 78-53 victory.

Who is Next
Ottawa (6-4, 3-3) returns to the court in a non-conference match up against Missouri Baptist University on Tuesday, Dec. 12 in St. Louis, Mo. It is the first time that the two teams have played since Nov. 23, 2013 and the first time that they have played in St. Louis, Mo.
