Braves Clip Falcons, 60-45

OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University women's basketball team won its second straight game, defeating Friends University 60-45 in Wilson Field House. The win snapped OU's five game losing streak against the Falcons.

Ottawa had a 9-4 lead over Friends with 4:33 to go in the first quarter. The Falcons responded by ending the quarter on a 6-2 run and the Braves took a 11-10 lead into the second.

The OU defense held Friends to six second quarter points. Ottawa opened the quarter on a 12-2 run, taking a 23-12 lead over Friends on a 3-pt field goal by Cierra Brown. The Falcons scored the next four points, cutting OU's lead to 23-16. Ottawa would get the final basket of the half to take a double digit lead into the locker room. Cierra Brown found an open Maria Moore on the wing for three and OU led 26-16 at the half.

Two baskets by Alyssa Guzman and a basket by Nicole Brown gave OU a 32-16 lead in the first 53 seconds of the second half. Friends, however, did not go away and cut the Brave lead to 35-27 with 4:22 left in the third.

Baskets by Cierra Brown and Nicole Brown increased the OU lead to 39-27. The Falcons again cut into the OU lead and with 41 seconds on the clock, Ottawa's lead was cut to eight. The Braves were able to increase its lead to double digits in the final seconds of the third. Jayla Johnson was fouled attacking the basket. She made both free throws, giving OU a 41-31 lead at the start of the fourth.

In the fourth quarter it was all OU. By the 1:42 mark, the Ottawa defense had held the Falcons to eight points in the final quarter of play. A basket by Janiyah Hendricks gave the Braves a 60-39 lead. Ottawa was able to empty its bench and OU took the 60-45 victory.
