Braves Take Two from Missouri Valley

OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University softball team swept Missouri Valley College on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Park. The Braves took game one, 3-0, and game two, 10-2, in five innings.

Game One
Ottawa took the lead in the bottom of the second inning. Hannah Copeland doubled to left. Nayely Delgado followed that with a double of her own, scoring Copeland to give OU a 1-0 lead. Cierra Faubion singled up the middle scoring Delgado and OU led 2-0.
The Braves increased their lead in the bottom of the sixth. Madison Bunfill stole home, giving the Braves a 3-0 lead. In the top of the seventh, the Vikings had two reach base but Ashlynn Mercer got the final two outs with a strike outs with a strike out and a fly out, giving OU a 3-0 lead.

Inside the Box Score
  • Hannah Copeland went 2-for-3 at the plate, scoring one run.
  • Ashlynn Mercer pitched in seven innings in the win, striking out four. She had a no hitter through the fifth inning.
Game Two
In the bottom of the first inning, the Braves offense put seven runs on the board on six hits. The Vikings cut into the Brave lead with one run in the second and one in the third, 7-2.
Ottawa increased its lead with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Madison Bunfill reached first with a single to right. Hannah Copeland's single to left moved Bunfill to second. Emma Melvin moved Bunfill to third with a fly out to center and OU had runners on the corners. The Braves then pulled off a double steal and Bunfill slid home to give OU an 8-2 lead.
The Braves ended the game in the bottom of the fifth. Katie Enneking doubled to left, scoring both Cierra Faubion and Kelcie Kippes to give the Braves the 10-2 victory.

Inside the Box Score
  • Katie Enneking had three hits in four at bats. She scored one run and drove in two.
  • Kelcie Kippes earned her second victory of the season, striking out three in five innings.

The Braves (4-0) are on the road on Friday, Feb. 17 at Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth, Texas. Game one of the double header is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
