Braves Down Oklahoma Wesleyan, 74-51

OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University women's basketball team defeated Oklahoma Wesleyan University, 74-51, on Saturday afternoon in Wilson Field House. The win is OU's 17 and is the Braves' 10th victory at home this season.

The Braves opened the first quarter on a 16-7 run. The Eagles cut into the OU lead and with a minute remaining in the first quarter, Ottawa led 16-10. The teams exchanged baskets at the end of the first and OU had a 19-12 lead at the start of the second quarter.

OKWU chipped away at the OU lead at the start of the second quarter, cutting Ottawa's lead to 22-19. A basket by Maria Moore and a free throw from Janiyah Hendricks gave OU a 25-19 lead with 5:44 left in the half.

The Eagles again cut into the OU lead and was within five points, 25-20. Ottawa answered by ending the half on a 12-0 run, taking a 37-20 lead into the locker room.

OKWU opened the third quarter with two straight 3-pt field goals to cut OU's lead to 11 points, 37-26. A 3-pt field goal by Hendricks and a basket by Hailey Henry gave OU a 47-32 lead with 5:10 left in the third.

Ottawa increased its lead to 16 points, 53-37, on two straight baskets by Nicole Brown. The Eagles scored the final basket of the quarter at the buzzer and OU took a 53-39 lead into the fourth.

The Braves scored the first eight points of the fourth quarter, taking a 61-39 lead on a fast break layup by Alyssa Guzman. Ottawa held the Eagles to 12 points for the remainder of the quarter, taking the 74-51 victory.
