SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – The Ottawa University men's volleyball team fell 3-0; 25-21, 25-16, 25-22; to (RV) Dordt University on Saturday evening in De Witt Gymnasium.
How it Happened
- Dordt scored the first three points of set no. 1. Ottawa responded with the next two points, kills by Trevan Johnson and Grant Younie to get within, 3-2. OU stayed close to the Defenders and after a block by Kayden Kirby and Akeil Williams, the Braves were within 10-9. Dordt put together a 4-0 run, taking a 14-9 lead over the Braves. Ottawa did not wilt and after a ball handling error by Dordt, the Braves were within 21-20. That is all the closer OU would get down the stretch as Dordt took the 25-21 victory.
- The Braves trailed the Defenders, 4-1 at the start of set two. Dordt increased its lead over OU 10-6. The Braves were not able to stage a comeback and DU took the 25-16 victory.
- Kills by Williams and Macort Pickup gave OU a 9-6 lead over Dordt in set three. Another kill by Williams and a kill from Kirby pushed the Brave lead to 12-8. Two Pickup kills increased the Ottawa lead to 17-13 over Dordt. After a Defender timeout, Dordt went on a 7-1 run, taking a 20-18 lead over OU. The Braves responded with a 4-1 run and led 22-21 on Younie kill. The Defenders ended the set and the match with four straight points, taking the 25-22 victory.
