Braves Trip Up Graceland, 3-1

OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University men's volleyball team earned its fifth win in its last six matches with a 3-1; 25-19, 25-18, 18-25, 25-16; victory over Graceland University on Friday night in Wilson Field House.

How it Happened
  • Ottawa took advantage of a few Graceland miscues at the start of set no. 1 to take a 5-2 lead. A kill by Michal Bak and a Yellowjacket attack error gave the Braves a 12-8 lead. A Bak service ace pushed the OU lead to 18-12. Graceland was not able to rally and the Braves took the 25-19 victory.
  • Graceland took the early lead in set two, 3-1. Ottawa rallied and after a block by Grant Younie and Kadeem Morris, Ottawa had tied the set at 13 all. Two straight Yellowjacket attacking errors and a kill by Younie gave OU a 19-15 lead. Ottawa held Graceland in check for the remainder of the set and the Braves took the 25-18 victory.
  • The Braves started set three off slow and found themselves down 5-1 to Graceland. Ottawa was not able to rebound from its slow start and the Yellowjackets took the 25-18 victory.
  • Kills by Akeil Williams and Bak tied set four at 4-4. Ottawa took its first lead of the set on a kill by Back, 6-5. OU increased its lead to 10-7 after a service ace by Bak. Ottawa did not allow Graceland to rally and OU took the 25-16 victory.

  • Ottawa finished the four set match with 41 kills, a .272 attacking percentage, 37 assists, five service aces, 28 digs, and 12 team blocks.
  • The Braves had two players with double digit kills. Akeil Williams led OU with 13 kills. He also had a .417 attacking percentage. Michael Bak was the other Brave in double figures. He finished the match with 11 kills and four service aces.
  • Andrew Salinas led OU with 20 assists and Jimmy Flores finished with 16.
  • Kevin Davidson led the Braves with 10 digs.
  • Kadeem Morris led OU with 10 blocks.
