OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University men's volleyball team is moving on to the GPAC Tournament Semifinals with a 3-0; 25-19, 25-23, 25-20; victory over Kansas Wesleyan University in Wilson Field House on Saturday afternoon.
How it Happened
- The Braves took a 7-3 lead over Kansas Wesleyan on a Michal Bak kill in set one. KWU rallied, tying the set, 8-8. A Coyotes service error and a block by Kadeem Morris and Macort Pickup gave the Braves a 10-8 lead. A kill by Grant Younie and a KWU ball handling error increased the OU lead to 15-11. KWU again rallied and were within, 16-15 of the Braves. Ottawa responded with a 5-1 run, taking a 21-16 lead on a block by Morris. The Braves held the Coyotes in check for the remainder of the set, taking the 25-19 victory.
- Ottawa fell behind early to the Coyotes, trailing 3-1 in set two. A kill by Akeil Williams and a KWU attacking error tied the set at 3-3. Back-to-back service aces by Bak pushed the Brave lead to 9-5. The Coyotes chipped away at the Brave lead had a 19-17 advantage over the Braves. Ottawa rallied and after a service error and three straight attacking errors gave OU a 21-19 lead. After a KWU timeout the Coyotes scored the next point to cut OU's lead to 21-20. Ottawa answered with back-to-back kill by Williams to take a 23-20 lead. KWU scored the next two points, cutting OU's lead to 23-22. Another kill by Williams gave the Braves a 24-22 lead. The Coyotes cut the Brave lead to one point, 24-23, but OU ended the set on a Williams' kill to take the 25-23 victory.
- With set three tied 12-12, Ottawa scored the next four points. A block by Williams and Macort Pickup gave OU a 16-12 lead. Ottawa pushed its lead to 19-15 on kills by Williams and Bak. The Coyotes were not able to rally and OU took the 25-20 victory.
