OTTAWA, Kan. - The Ottawa women's lacrosse team defeated Culver-Stockton with a final score of 14-7 on Sunday, March 6th at AdventHealth Field. The win brings Ottawa's season record to 2-2, while Culver-Stockton falls to 0-1.
The game started off strong for Ottawa, with Mackenzie Simmons and Cecily Anderson scoring early goals to put the team ahead 2-0. Anderson added another goal later in the first period, followed by a goal from Culver-Stockton's Sopheea Vomund and McKayla Nevarez. Anderson scored once more before the end of the first period to make the score 4-2 in favor of Ottawa.
In the second period, Dinah Hinson and Anderson scored for OU, while Vomund and Nevarez added goals for Culver-Stockton. The Braves held a slim 6-4 lead at halftime.
In the third period, Ottawa pulled away with four goals from Simmons, Anderson, and Jasmin Roybal. Melanie Sanchez scored the lone goal for Culver-Stockton in the period. In the fourth period, Ottawa continued their scoring streak with goals from Shannon Carroll, Hinson, Roybal, and Meagan Gilstrap. Culver-Stockton managed two more goals from Vomund and Erin Bodine, but it wasn't enough to catch up to Ottawa's 14-7 advantage at the end of regulation.Â
