FREMONT, Neb. -- The (RV)Ottawa lacrosse team emerged victorious with a commanding 19-6 win against Midland in a thrilling match held at Heedum Field in Fremont, Nebraska on Monday afternoon.
Right from the start, Ottawa took control of the game, with Cecily Anderson leading the charge by scoring the first goal at 13:31 in the first period, followed by two more goals within a minute. Mackenzie Simmons and Dinah Hinson provided the assists for Anderson's goals, showcasing their teamwork and chemistry on the field. Midland responded with a goal from Victoria Orozco, but Ottawa continued their offensive onslaught, adding five more goals in the first period to take a commanding 8-1 lead.
Ottawa's offensive prowess continued in the second period, with Anderson and Simmons adding more goals to their tally, while Ashley Santillan and Meagan Gilstrap also found the back of the net. Midland managed to score two goals in the second period, but Ottawa remained in control with an 11-3 lead heading into the third period.
The third period saw Ottawa's domination continue, with Gilstrap, Simmons, and Anderson adding more goals to their individual totals. Midland tried to mount a comeback with two goals of their own, but Ottawa's defense held strong, limiting their scoring opportunities. Ottawa maintained a comfortable lead with a 14-4 advantage going into the fourth period.
In the final period, Ottawa continued to showcase their offensive firepower, with Gilstrap, Anderson, Dixon, and Ruoff all scoring goals to put the game out of reach for Midland. Despite Midland's efforts to narrow the gap with one more goal, Ottawa emerged victorious with a final score of 19-6.
Anderson had an outstanding performance, finishing the game with five goals and tallying five assists, while Mackenzie Simmons and Meagan Gilstrap also had impressive performances with five and four goals respectively. Ottawa's team effort and skillful play were evident throughout the game, with contributions from various players on the roster.
With this victory, Ottawa improves their season record to 6-4, while Midland falls to 4-7. OU closes out the regular season with one last game against University of Saint Mary on Friday at 4 pm.
