OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University women's flag football team captured its third straight KCAC Championship with a 39-0 rain shorted game against Bethel College on Saturday afternoon at AdventHealth Field. The championship is OU's third straight.
On six of eight Bethel offensive possessions, the OU defensed forced five Bethel punts and had a pick. Ottawa's defense held the Threshers to 45 yards of offense, eight rushing and 37 yards passing. Six of the Braves' seven offensive possessions ended in a touchdown.
The OU defense forced a Bethel punt on the first offensive possession of the game and Ottawa's offense took over on the BC 33 yard line. Six plays and 33 yards later, Ottawa was in the end zone. Maydsen Carrera threw a touchdown pass to
Courtney Wille. The extra point attempt was no good and with 5:22 left in the quarter, OU lead 6-0.
The Braves forced another Thresher punt and took over on the Bethel 32 yard line. This time it only took four plays for the Braves to cross the goal line. Carrera threw a nine yard touchdown pass to
Bailey Hodgins. The extra point attempt was no good and at the start of the second quarter, Ottawa led 12-0.
Ottawa increased its lead over Bethel with 31 seconds left in the first half. Carrera ran the ball in from 11 yards out. The Carrera extra point attempt was good and the Braves took a 19-0 lead into the locker room.
OU received the ball to start the second half. Ottawa put together a seven play, 66 yard drive that ended in a nine yard touchdown pass from Carrera to
Mya Quinn. The Carrera extra point attempt was good and Ottawa had a 26-0 lead over Bethel with 8:23 left in the third quarter.
It did not take long for Ottawa to get the ball back. On the third play of the Thresher drive,
Abby Brown stepped in front of the Bethel quarterback's pass. She returned the ball to the Thresher seven yard line.
Two plays later, Carrera threw a seven yard touchdown pass to
Addison Orsborn. The extra point attempt was no good and Ottawa led 32-0 with 6:23 to go in the third quarter. The OU defense forced another Bethel punt and the Brave offense took over on the BC 36 yard line.
Two plays later Ottawa was back in the end zone. Carrera threw a 30 yards touchdown pass to
Randrea Gamble. The Carrera extra point attempt was good and Ottawa led 39-0 with 4:18 left in the third.
Three plays into the Threshers' next offensive possession the game was put into a lightning delay. A few minutes later, the game was called with OU taking the 39-0 victory.
