LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The Ottawa University women's flag football team defeated the University of Saint Mary, 58-0, on Wednesday afternoon at Berkel Memorial Stadium. In the third quarter, Ottawa's defense intercepted the USM quarterback on three straight possessions, returning all three for touchdowns.
Ottawa received the ball to open the games and 10 plays later, the Braves were in the end zone.
Madysen Carrera ran the ball in from four yards out and after her extra point try, Ottawa led 7-0 with 6:29 left in the first quarter.
The Brave defense forced a Spire punt and OU took over on the USM 33 yard line. Runs by

Mandolyn Scalisi moved the ball to the USM 11 yard line. On the third play of the drive, Carrera found an open
Jazlyn Camacho for the 11 yard touchdown. The extra point attempt by Carrera was good and at the 2:02 mark in the first quarter, Ottawa led 14-0.
Another forced punt by the OU defense gave Ottawa's offense the ball on its own 38 yard line. The Braves moved the ball to the USM two yard line and on third and two, Carrera threw a two yard touchdown pass to Gamble, giving OU a 20-0 lead with 8:29 left in the first half.
The Spires had to punt once again, and Ottawa took over on the USM 35 yard line. One play later, Carrera found Camacho for the touchdown and the Braves had a 26-0 lead over Saint Mary with 6:01 remaining in the second quarter.
Ottawa's defense came away with its first take away of the game on the Spires' next offensive possession.
Lauren Clarke picked off the USM quarterback at the Spire 20 yard line and returned the ball to the USM 15 yard line. Ottawa scored quickly with a Carrera touchdown pass to
Addison Orsborn. The PAT attempt was good and OU took a 33-0 lead into the locker room.
USM's first offensive possession in the second half started a string of three straight Ottawa pick sixes. The Spires drove the ball to the Brave 16 yard line.
Faron Malouff picked the ball on the Brave 10 yard line and returned it 70 yards for the touchdown. The extra point attempt was no good and OU led 39-0.
Three plays into the Spires' next offensive possession,
Nina GraveDePeralta intercepted the ball at the USM 35 yard line. She returned the ball 35 yards for the touchdown, giving OU a 45-0 lead with 5:14 left in the third quarter.
Jukanie Washington go into the act on the Spires next possession. She picked the ball at the USM 30 yards line and returned it for the touchdown. That score gave Ottawa a 51-0 lead with 3:32 remaining in the third quarter.
Ottawa scored its final touchdown of the game, this one offensive, with the 3:29 mark in the fourth quarter. Carrera ran the ball in from 11 yards out for the touchdown. The extra point attempt was good and the Braves took the game, 58-0.
