ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Ottawa University women's lacrosse secured their spot in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) women's lacrosse championship game with a commanding 20-1 victory over the Saint Mary Spires in the semifinals on Wednesday night at Spartan Field on the campus of Missouri Baptist.
The two-seeded Braves, who finished the regular season with a 7-4 record, got off to a quick start and never looked back. They scored eight goals in the first quarter alone, with
Dinah Hinson,
Cecily Anderson, and
Mackenzie Simmons each finding the back of the net twice.
Ottawa continued to dominate in the second quarter, adding six more goals to take a 14-0 lead into halftime. Anderson, who led the team with five goals, scored two more in the quarter, while
Felicia Dixon and Simmons also scored.
The Braves kept up the pressure in the second half, scoring four more goals in the third quarter and two in the fourth. Hinson, Simmons,
Meagan Gilstrap,
Jasmin Roybal,
Ashley Santillan,
Isabella Pagliei, and
Faith Ruoff all contributed to the scoring, while goalkeeper
Cecily Anderson made five saves to keep Saint Mary at bay.
The Spires, who finished the regular season with a 3-5 record, managed to score one goal in the fourth quarter when Kylie Wilson found the back of the net, but it was too little too late.
With the win, Ottawa advances to the KCAC women's lacrosse championship game, where they will face No. 1 Missouri Baptist. The championship game is scheduled for Saturday, April 22
