WALESKA, Ga. – The Ottawa University women's flag football team scored early and often, taking a 51-6 victory over Reinhardt University on Saturday afternoon. The Braves finished the game with 427 yards of offense, 90 rushing and 337 passing while the Eagles finished with 156 yards of offense, 125 yards passing and 31 yards rushing.
Ottawa struck first, taking the lead with 6:11 to go in the first quarter.
Madysen Carrera threw a 54 yard touchdown pass to
Mandolyn Scalisi. Carrera one point conversion attempt was good and the Braves led 7-0.
The Eagles answered with a seven play, 66 yard drive. Ashlyn McKinley threw a two yard touchdown pass to Caroline Small. The extra point attempt was no good and Ottawa's lead was cut to one point, 7-6, with 3:21 left in the first.
It only took two plays for the Braves to respond. Carrera completed her second touchdown pass of the day. This one 51 yards to
Randrea Gamble. The extra point try was good and the Braves had a 14-6 lead at the 2:32 mark in the first quarter.
The OU defense came away with a take away on Reinhardt's next offensive possession.
Faron Malouff picked off the RU quarterback and OU had the ball on the Eagle 23 yards line. It didn't take long for the Braves to find the endzone. This time Carrera ran the ball in herself, the extra point attempt was good and Ottawa had a 21-6 lead with 11:23 left in the first half.
The Brave defense forced a Reinhardt punt and the offense took over on its own 30 yards line. Six plays later Carrera found
Jazlyn Camacho in the endzone for the 16 yard touchdown and the Braves had a 27-6 lead with 5:18 left in the second quarter.
Ottawa's defense forced another Eagle punt the OU offense took over on its own 33 yard line with two minutes left in the half. All it took was one play. Carrera threw a 47 yard touchdown pass to
Bailey Hodgins and with 1:28 on the clock, Ottawa had a 33-6 lead.
The OU defense tallied its second take away of the game on Reinhardt's next offensive possession.
Hailee McKay intercepted the pass at the Brave 25 yard line and OU had the ball with 15 seconds on the clock.
Three plays later and exactly 15 seconds later, Ottawa was in the endzone again. Carrera threw a 42 yard touchdown pass to Camacho and the Braves took a 39-6 lead into the locker room.
In the second half the Braves scored two more touchdowns. Carrera scored her second touchdown of the day on the ground, this one from 21 yards out with 9:55 to go in the third. Ottawa's final touchdown of the game came at the 1:41 mark in the third quarter. Carrera and Camacho connected for a third time, giving the Braves the lead and the game 51-6.
