Football Plays McPherson at AdventHealth Field on Saturday

The Braves snapped their 13 game losing streak to nationally ranked opponents last Saturday night with a 28-24 win over no. 23 Bethel College in North Newton, Kan. Ottawa finished the game with 326 yards of offense, 193 yards through the air and 133 rushing yards. Bethel had 422 yards of offense, 75 yards passing and 347 yards on the ground. The Braves are now 31-92 all-time against nationally ranked teams.

Jayden Johnson has had over 100 receiving yards in two out of his first three collegiate games. He had 104 receiving yards against Southwestern College and 113 receiving yards in the win over Bethel last Saturday. Johnson also scored his first collegiate touchdown in the win over Bethel.

Ottawa is averaging 318.3 yards of offense per game, 148 yards rushing and 170.3 yards passing. The Braves are scoring 23.3 points per game. Opponents are scoring 32.3 points per game and averaging 406.7 yards of offense, 296.7 rushing and 110 yards passing.

Billy Maples leads the team in passing yards per game, averaging 168.7 yards through the air per game. He is completing 48.2 percent of his passes and has three passing touchdowns. Wynton Ruth is OU's leader in rushing yards per game (59.3). He has 178 rushing yards on the season and two rushing touchdowns. Jayden Johnson leads the team in receptions with 14. He is averaging 80.7 receiving yards per game and has one receiving touchdown. AJ Hemphill leads the team in tackles with 34, Kyle Reynolds is second on the team in tackles with 30, and Jensen Riffel has 24 tackles.

Saturday is the 89th meeting between Ottawa University and McPherson College. Ottawa leads the series 61-27 but McPherson has won two straight games against the Braves. The Bulldogs won the meeting last year at AdventHealth Field, 27-18, on Sept. 17. The first meeting between the two teams happened on Oct. 18, 1929 in McPherson. The Bulldogs won the game 21-0.

OU is 33-10 all-time against McPherson in Ottawa. The Braves are 4-1 in their last five home games against the Bulldogs. Ottawa had won five straight at home versus McPherson until MC took a 27-18 win last season at AdventHealth Field.
